The cataloging and classification department is considered a laboratory in which the library acquisitions (printed and unprinted) are processed in a systematic way to facilitate using them and getting the required information quickly, precisely and easily, depending on technical specifications and international standards.
Tasks
1- Cataloging materials according to the Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (AACR2) related to descriptive cataloging.
2- Classifying materials according to the latest edition of Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC).
3- Setting up the authority files according to the standard specifications for this purpose.
4- Checking the quality of work by verifying the cataloged materials and correcting errors if any.
5- Fixing the materials with the necessary labels.
6- Training the center’s staff and, the Arab and local community on the library system.
