Responding to queries about manuscripts, books and theses:

  • The researcher can inquire about the availability of manuscripts or books, by searching on the databases of publications and manuscripts.
  • As well as asking about the particular manuscript whether it was verified and published before or not, also inquiring about the thesis whether it went through viva or not.

Borrowing the books:

The Center’s system allows the borrowing of books for internal use only and not for external use. For that purpose we have the photocopying service which enables researcher to photocopy the material of books or thesis, under some conditions.

Photocopying service:

1.Terms and Conditions of copying manuscripts:

  • To submit a request mentioning the title of the manuscript, author's name, and other possible details.
  • To attach the letter from the university or from any certified educational authority which assures the need of scholar to the concerned manuscript, or attach any thing which proves that he is in the field of research and editing.
  • Payment of material value of AED one for each page or snapshot, whether it is in digital format or on paper (not colored).
  • Researcher should undertake that he would donate a copy of the book after printing it to the library of the center, noting that a copy of the manuscript was obtained from the library of the center.
  • No more than three manuscripts can be ordered in one request.
  • The researcher will undertake not to upload the digitized manuscript on the Internet unless with the consent and written permission from the center.

2.Terms and Conditions of copying books:

  • Photocopy of books are allowed with no more than 50% of the number of pages.


3.Terms and Conditions of copying thesis:

  • Copying thesis is permissible only within the limit of 15% of the number of pages.


Terms and Conditions for publishing in periodical of “Aafaqu al-thaqafa wa al-turath” (Horizons of Culture and Heritage).

  • The topic should have a distinct novelty, objectivity and comprehensiveness which enriches the knowledge, and deals with one of two things:
    • A contemporary cultural issue, due consideration to the benefit of Arabic and Islamic culture, and contribute to overcome the cultural problems.
    • The issue of scientific heritage, which can contribute to the development of intellectual and cognitive intake of Arabic and Muslim human, and enrich the Arabic and Islamic culture new.
  • The research should not be the part of a master's or doctoral thesis prepared by the researcher, and not have been published in any manner whatsoever, including researches submitted for publication to anywhere, or those already have been provided to universities or scientific seminars, etc. and it should be a written undertaking signed by the researcher.
  • Due consideration should be given to the religious texts as to write them accurately with punctuation and pronunciation marks, likewise attributing the Quranic verses, and referring the ‘ahadith’ to their reference sources.
  • Research must be free from linguistic and grammatical errors, taking into account punctuation marks, generally accepted in the Arabic style, with putting the pronunciation marks wherever needed.
  • Scientific method must be followed in terms of the briefing, thoroughness, relying on authentic sources, attribution, documentation, footnotes, references, and other rules in force in scientific research, keeping in mind that the references and footnotes of each page should be at the bottom of that page.
  • Indexing the sources and scientific references and their authors at the end of the research in alphabetical order, according to the title, with mentioning the publisher and date of publication.
  • Work should have been composed on the computer, or typed on typewriter, or written by clear handwriting, on only one side of the paper.
  • The researcher should attach to his research, brief summary of his educational career, indicating his full name, degree, job title, place of work mentioning the department, the College and the University, as well as the address, and a recent colored photograph.
  • Similarly research work can be based on manuscript verification; in this case the known scientific rules in the field should be followed, attaching with the research the photos of the copies of verified manuscript, used in this process.
  • Research work neither should be less than 15 pages nor more than 30 pages.
     

Notes:

  1. Including researches in the periodical is subject to technical consideration.
  2. Researches sent to the periodical will not be returned to their owners, whether published or not.
  3. After presenting the research to the editorial board of the magazine, researcher is not permissible to withdraw it, unless for the reasons convinced by the editorial board, before he is notified of it’s acceptance for publication.
  4. Any research contrary to the terms mentioned will be ruled out.
  5. The magazine pays remunerations for published research, or book reviews, or any other intellectual works.
  6. Researcher is given two copies of the magazine.
     


Conditions for the publication of books in a series of “Aafaqu al-thaqafa wa al-turath” (Horizons of Culture and Heritage).

  • Books submitted for evaluation and arbitration are subject to the rules and regulations adhered to by, and carried out by leading scholars and specialists, in order to promote scientific research to serve the nation and raise it, and one of those rules is not knowing the arbitrators and researchers the names of one another, whether the arbitrators agreed to publish research without modification or expressed some observations, or lack of suitability for publication.

Notes:

  1. Views published in this series reflect the thought of their owners, and do not represent the opinion of the publisher or its direction.
  2. Books sent will not be returned to the owners, whether published or not.
  3. After submission of the book to arbitration, researcher is not liable to request not to publish it, unless for reasons that convinced the committee overseeing the issuance of the series, and that should be prior to the notice of acceptance of his book for publication.
  4. Any book that fails to meet the terms mentioned will be excluded.
  5. Center pays rewards for published books, and thirty copies of the printed book to the author.
     


Participation in courses, lectures and other activities:


The center organizes many cultural events, such as lectures and scientific, administrative, and educational short courses, on both public and private scale. Anyone can participate in them through the following:

  • Whoever wants to be notified about the activities, will send his e-mail address to the center, through the "Contact Us" from the Main Page of the website, to be added to the mailing list.
  • An e-mail will be sent to him informing about the activity before it takes place, and in most of the events and activities invitations are general, excepting some courses and workshops where seats are limited.

Exchanging gifts:

One of the many services that enrich the Center’s library is the system of gifts exchanging, where many of the authors donate their books to the library of the center, as well as graduate students donate a copy of their theses, and in turn center gives them its publications or any other available gift.

Restoration and binding of books and documents:


The center provides service of restoration and preservation of manuscripts and documents for individuals, according to the conditions relating to the importance of material after being checked by relevant department.

Working hours:


All departments of the center open their doors from Saturday to Wednesday, between eight am and five pm. And from eight am to one pm on Thursday.
Requests to bring books and manuscripts must be submitted to the reading room at least an hour before the end of the time.
Reading room is open Saturday to Thursday from eight am to seven pm.
