On the occasion of International Archives Day, Juma Al Majid Center for Culture and Heritage, in collaboration with the Global University in Beirut, organized a remote symposium on Monday, June 10, 2024. The symposium, held via an online platform, was titled “Electronic Archiving in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Challenges and Aspirations.” Participating in the symposium were Mr. Mahmoud Abdel Alim Mohamed, an archive and documentation specialist at the Juma Al Majid Center for Culture and Heritage, and Mr. Mohamed Younis Abdel Aal, head of the Archive Unit at the Global University in Beirut. The symposium was moderated by Professor Dr. Wafi Haj Majid, head of the Arabic Language and Literature Department at the Global University in Beirut.
The symposium began with Mr. Mahmoud presenting a talk on “Technology and Heritage: The Convergence of Archives with Artificial Intelligence.” His presentation covered several key concepts, including an introduction to artificial intelligence and its tools, the importance of archives in the age of artificial intelligence, an introduction to dark archives and the role of artificial intelligence in exploring them, and smart applications that can be used to transition towards intelligent archiving.
Following this, Mr. Mohamed Younis delivered his remarks on “Documentation and Archiving: From Digitization to Intelligent Processing,” focusing on the intelligent processing of documents, analyzing document data through artificial intelligence applications, and the prospects of documentation in the age of artificial intelligence.
