Used Book Fair at the University of Sharjah

Organized by the Libraries Administration at the University of Sharjah, the Juma Al Majid Center for Culture and Heritage in Dubai participated in the charitable used book fair held from September 23 to 26, 2024, at the College of Medicine on the university’s campus.
The center’s contribution included a collection of images of rare medical manuscripts from its archives, such as Questions on the Eye by Hunayn Ibn Ishaq Al-Abadi (d. 260 AH), The Canon of Medicine by Ibn Sina (Avicenna) (d. 428 AH), De Materia Medica by Dioscorides (d. circa 90 CE), The Tree of Medicine by Ahmad Ibn Muhammad Al-Qurashi (d. 917 AH), Anatomy of the Body by Mansur Ibn Muhammad Al-Shirazi (d. 809 AH), and Al-Tasrif Liman Ajaz An Al-Taleef by Khalaf Ibn Abbas Al-Zahrawi (d. 427 AH).
Additionally, the center showcased several of its publications related to medical manuscripts, including Anatomy and Surgery and Their Role in Islamic Civilization by Dr. Mohammed Kamel Gad, the Director General of the center, and Healthcare and Medicine by Ms. Asma Yousef Al-Diyab.
Ms. Nadia Masoud, Director of Libraries Administration at the University of Sharjah, praised the center’s participation, describing it as a valuable contribution. She highlighted how it enabled medical students at the university to gain insights into the pioneering role played by ancient Muslim scholars in advancing medical sciences.
