As part of the summer cultural program organized by Juma Al Majid Center for Culture and Heritage at its headquarters in Dubai, the center presented a remote lecture on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, titled “Seasonal Digital Risks to Families: The Summer Vacation Model.” The lecture was delivered by technology and awareness expert, Abdul Noor Sami.
The lecture aims to raise family awareness about seasonal digital risks during the summer vacation, as the increased leisure time among youth can lead to negative consequences, making them susceptible to exploitation in the digital world, where they may fall victim to scams, fraud, and hacking.
Abdul Noor Sami said, “This lecture is a community initiative to reduce digital crimes that affect families because the family is the cornerstone of society. In the lecture, we focused on the most important concepts and terms related to digital risks, such as cyberbullying, grooming and sexual harassment, inappropriate and non-purposeful content, fake and misleading news, hacking and spying, scams and fraud, and digital addiction and distraction.”
At the end of the lecture, the discussion turned to the most prominent procedural and technical preventive solutions, including adjusting internet and phone settings, personalizing social media algorithms to display positive content, parental control, and creating a healthy digital lifestyle to enhance the quality of digital life.
